Hello Santa
I spotted Hello Santa, a children’s picture book, at the MoMA store a while back and I instantly fell in love with the black and white graphic illustrations. Who says Christmas has to be kitschy for kids? Hello Santa, written (and I assume illustrated) by Chritina Turner

A Diamond May Be Forever, But This is Weird!
“In a New York City park, A Diamond is Forever sponsored an installation where couples could document a kiss in 360-degree video, from December 1st until the 17th. For a $5 donation to the Elton John AIDS Foundation for World AIDS Day, couples kissed beneath a mistletoe arrangement while 60 cameras photographed them from all angles. The photographs were combined into moving video images,...

Under The Influence: Beastie Boys Tribute
My awesome painter friend Danielle Rizzolo just posted her most recent piece on her Blog. The painting is for the Beastie Boys tribute show @ Gallery 1988 in LA the January. If you are familliar with Danielle’s work, you will know that this is a really interesting fusion of her personal style (with a slight obsession with painting picture frames) and an appropriate Beastie Boy style...

Josh Jakus's Felt Bags Are Alive!
Josh Jakus makes cool bags, but his website makes them even cooler. If you click into the Um Bag section and stay there for a second or two the backs automatically animate to unzip themselves with a great zipper sound effect. In theory this could be very bad, but In practice it is great! It is fun, memorable and a great way to show of the product’s unique feature. Check it out. My crappy...

Super Illustrations in NY Mag
In this week’s issue of New York Magazine, there is a pretty interesting article about women’s increasing consumption of alcohol, entitled The Gender Blender. I love the illustrations by Hope Gangloff that accompany the story. They are a bit unexpected for NY Mag, but they are evocative, eeire and perfect for the mood of the piece. Her forms remind me a bit of Egon Schiele but with...

Another Great Holiday Card From MSLK
MSLK has a history of sending out great holiday cards that double as some sort of paper-based gift. This year they created a set of gift labels that spelled out their message of cheer. You can read more about their design process on their blog. I was certainly excited to receive my card in the mail last week. I especially love the tags that use arrows that replace the words “to” and...

Gilbert and George Retrospective
Go see the Gilbert and George show at the Brooklyn Museaum. I went last weekend, and I spent this past week thinking about the show and what I would say about it when I posted. Truth is I can’t sum it all up in a succinct way and I’m not entirely sure what I thought, but I definitely enjoyed the experience of seeing the show. The work is a bit wacky, a bit political, large,...
