Shake It
If you have an iPhone you need to buy the Shake It Photo App. It works like a Polaroid camera (RIP the real thing) — you can watch your photo develop and when you shake your phone the photo develops faster. I took this photo of Mystic Paint cans at a hardware store in Brooklyn after my friend Marc pointed out how great their packing and product is.

Break Up
In a random turn of events, Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson paired up in 2006 to create a collection of boy-meets-girl-girl-ruins-boy duets in the tradition of Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot, Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra, and Lou Reed and Nico. Break Up is finally coming out (September 15; the first single, “Relator,” was released in May, on vinyl and iTunes). You can watch the video for...

Faith / Fate
While I am sure most of you Williamsbugers/etc have seen this, I finally decided to post it (after walking by it a million times and thinking about how much I like it). This tile mural is one of a series in the Lorimer/Metropolitan G/L station. In my opinion, it is far better than any of the others in the series — the concept and execution feel just right together. I love that it posses a question...

Art & Copy
I went to see Art & Copy yesterday. The film focuses much more on advertising and generating the big ideas rather than the nitty gritty nuance of design (which is the stuff I really love) but it is well done and made some really excellent points. The film did a nice job shedding light on what it means to work as a creative person in this industry. It also validated the need for creativity and...

Swimming Pool
Yesterday, I finally made it out to one of PS1’s Warm Up Parties for this summer. As usual, the crazy outdoor installation, beer (SixPoint!), and live music was great. I was also excited to be there because I have been dying to see Leandro Erlich’s installation, Swimming Pool. I often find most of the art at PS1 hit or miss (and mostly miss), but this piece should definitely not be...

Wayne Thiebaud
Wayne Thiebaud came up in conversation today at my studio. I have always loved his work (and not just because I have a sweet tooth) so I figured I’d post one of my favorire paintings of his.

Ink Calendar
Spanish designer Oscar Diaz designed a calendar that uses the capillary action of ink spreading across paper to display the date. Too bad it is only a prototype, otherwise I would be adding it to my wish list to replace my bubble calendar for 2010. [via NY Mag Matrix and dezeen]

Yellow Owl Workshop
As I am sitting in the Burlington VT airport after spending a beautiful long weekend in the Adirondacks, I must post these State of New York postcards by Yellow Owl Workshop — if nothing else to remind all you New Yorkers that there is a hell of a lot more of the state than the city (and it’s ways north of the Catskills). But seriously check out all of Yellow Owl’s work it is great....

Rebecca Ward's Tape Instations
These amazing tape installions by Rebbecca Ward are like a 3D version of Jim Lambie’s tape floors (which I have always loved). Really, you need to look at her site becaue there are way too many awesome installation images to share here. [via Pitch Design Union]

Graffiti Stickers Become a Hotel Mural
Bronx-born artist, Michael Anderson, has been collecting graffiti stickers since the early nineties. His collection now numbers at least 40,000. Last April, the owners of the new Ace Hotel at 29th and Broadway came calling with a mural commission which Anderson completed last month. The Mural consists of 4,000 or so stickers scanned from Anderson’s notebooks, printed in black-and-white on silk...

NBC Chicago How Cool Are You?
Maybe NBC Chicago thinks they are hip, but I have a feeling their new type treatment is a bit too cool for them. I agree with Alex Fuller from The Post Family when he says, he loves geometric type but is weary of this pairing — especially when messing with a timeless icon like the peacock…. but then there is still that hipster designer in me that kind of likes it. Hmmmm. [via The Post...

Kalina Cats!
I have to post this for 2 reasons: 1. I think Kalina Magazine is super cool. 2. I must indulge my Cat Lady Persona by declaring my love for Issue Two (the cat one!)

Goodbye Bonita
Bonita in Williamsburg, Brooklyn closed their doors this past weekend (earlier than expected). Although I was never a huge fan of the food, prices, or lack of Tequila, I always loved the vintage and hand-painted signage. It was one of my favorite parts of walking down Bedford to my apt on the South Side — lame but true. For all you fans, the Forte Greene location is still open. Read more on...

Vancouver 2010 Official Posters
Interesting look and feel developed by illustrator Irene Jacobs of I’m JAC Design, that incorporate elements designed by Xwa lack tun, a Vancouver-based Aboriginal artist. The design is way better than the official logos but I think some of the accompanying graphics and athlete icons feel a bit over-designed. I do always appreciate smart explanations of the process.  [via Design Crush and Object...
